Outsourcing is good however we must be careful. I like this idea about outsourcing for helpdesk but its one thing to say “sure, outsourcing this help to a firm or peple in india will help” its another thing to actully make it happen and have it work. More ofter I have heard from my peers that it does not. Any thougths on this?
This is a great discussion topic. Like you, I have heard some stories where outsourcing (overseas) did not turn out like people intended and customers were severely impacted.
On the other hand I have heard equally as many stories where people were satisfied and making it work well. Although in most of those cases the outsourcing that was being done was more about monitoring of servers and desktops where the outsourced firm handled issues that arose from alerts rather than person-to-person helpdesk support.
Like a lot of things, I think it ends up being a matter of choice by the IT solution provider and which outsourcer they end up choosing to support their clients. There are a few firms like Zoom IT Solutions who are making this situation work very well. I’d enjoy hearing more on this from folks.
