Excerpts from the diary of a data junkie

We have all been there – you wake up breathing heavily. You don’t know why you are awake, but you have to get to a computer because you think you may have discovered another way to manipulate your (all powerful) spreadsheet or database views to see things in a different light, learn something new or figure out a problem.

Maybe this urge comes to you while scanning through the thousands of emails and support tickets your IT service firm is dealing with right now.

Breaking news – you are a Data Junkie!

Diary - Day 533: if only there were a financial dashboard
"The urge is sometimes frustrating because you know all the data is sitting
right there in your accounting system, it's just getting to the right
set of data so then you can talk about it with your leadership team
(this is sometimes yourself, your wife or dog). What if we could
all look at a picture of the data we needed to see? I don't want to spend
time with spreadsheets any more, I need to spend more time with my customers
and my people. If only there was some kind of a dashboard that told
me all I needed to focus on, then I could get busy setting and tracking
goals and talking to people again. Then, I could really get to work
addressing the important issues!"

Let’s hear from all you data junkies out there, tell us about your most memorable data junkie relapses – I’m listening!
